The Sri Sathya Sai Institute of Higher Medical Sciences (SSSIHMS) or General Hospital was put into use in 1985 with the idea of providing a gratis medical service  to everyone who visited  the Ashram, inclusive the neighbouring  people in Puttaparthi. In 1991 it was renovated from General Hospital to SSSIHMS and now gives accommodation to about 100 beds for patients. The hospital is open 24 hours a day and it is  fitted with apparatuses for minor surgical operations. People can be X-rayed there. There is a possibility for radiology. Dental services are extant as well and there is a possibility for a daily medical check-up. The hospital also functions as the first check-up for patients that have to go to the Superspeciality Hospital
