US BIRTH SCIENTIST’S PREGNANT MYTHS: A SATHYA SAI BABA TRAVAIL

A top pediatric advisor to the Bush Administation, Dr. Kanwaljeet (Sunny) Anand, may be controversial for his theories on the life of the human fetus but still more questionable is his adulation of India's most famous - and infamous - guru, Sathya Sai Baba, who, supposedly the all-knowing 'avatar' of all the ages (embodiment of God), has made shockingly absurd statements about science and history, including those involving Dr. Sunny Anand's own field - making contradictory claims about when life enters the human fetus.
US BIRTH SCIENTIST’S PREGNANT MYTHS: A SATHYA SAI BABA TRAVAIL

Dr. Kanwaljeet (Sunny) Anand, is a top United States pediatrician, a very influential advisor on childbirth issues to the Bush administration. He is Professor of Pediatrics, Anesthesiology, Pharmacology, Neurobiology & Developmental Sciences UAMS College of Medicine; Board of Directors, Arkansas Children's Hospital Research Institute.

Dr. Sunny Anand is also a high-profile follower of India's richest and most infamous guru, the profoundly discredited Sathya Sai Baba, who faces worldwide allegations of serial sexual molestation of boys and young men, and other crimes, such as implication in police killings in his bedroom on June 6, 1993, about which prominent Indians like former Home Secretary of Andhra Pradesh (Sai Baba's state), V.P.B. Nair, have publicly voiced concerns at a vast cover-up by Sai Baba’s ashram and local, state and central governments in India. Unfortunately, so great is Sai Baba's impact on successive power brokers of all major political parties in India and on the judiciary – thousands of whom fall down at his feet in public – no court cases or genuine police investigations have succeeded. In April 2004, the BBC - though too late for inclusion in its television documentary ‘The Secret Swami’ (2004) - was able to expose the leadership of UNESCO (Paris) for yielding to Indian government pressure to delete their Media Advisory adverse to Sai Baba and some of his organizers. See my article, ‘Does UNESCO Really Protect the Young? The Case of the Missing Media Advisory’: www.saiguru.net/english/articles/124does_unesco_really_protect_the_y.htm . In the meantime, the US State Department has confirmed to the BBC that Sai Baba is the subject of its concerned investigations into the serious allegations of many US citizens: home.hetnet.nl/~ex-baba/engels/shortnews/commentsonsecretswami2.html

Hundreds of scientists from around the world - if not thousands - have got enmeshed with Sai Baba or his cult. It is time to get some accountability and to expose such obscurantism. Some of these followers are immensely influential in the world of science, government, education and so on but cannot, with any honesty, reconcile their rationality with the discredited actions and absurdly unscientific statements of Sathya Sai Baba. The refusal to heed the voices of respected former devotees and their families and others around the world that Sai Baba has betrayed the trust of boys and young men, and a great many others, is ethically, morally, legally and scientifically reprehensible. There is an international petition at: www.saipetition.net/

Last November, Dr. Sunny Anand was a featured speaker at Sai Baba's eightieth birthday celebrations celebrated in his vast ashram in Puttaparthi, South India. Dr. Anand's claims that Sai Baba is God fully manifest, are found at an official Sai Baba website: www.srisathyasaipublications.org/anand.htm . Whatever may be Sunny Anand's views on fetal development (and they are far from controversy-free among birth scientists), here is a brief example of his incredibly inaccurate and mythologizing talk as a featured speaker at Sathya Sai Baba's eightieth birth day:

"The Advent of this Divine Form is referenced in the Book of Revelations of the Bible, in the Holy Koran, in the Vedas and Jaimini Mahabharatha, in the Guru Granth Sahib, and in all of the major religious texts of the world."

You may view scans at: home.hetnet.nl/~ex-baba/engels/shortnews/foetus.html of two brief extracts, run side by side, of entirely conflicting statements on the topic of fetal animation by Anand's omniscient and omnipotent God, Sai Baba, from two editions of the guru's official magazine, Sanathana Sarathi - of a) September 1996 and b) April 1997.

For more detail, there is an account by the Australian scholar Brian Steel: bdsteel.tripod.com/More/80bdayanand.htm . Here, Brian Steel writes of his polite attempt to verify from Dr. Sunny Anand whether it was he who spoke at Sai Baba's 80th birthday. Sunny Anand wrote back to say that any further email from Brian Steel would end up in the trash bin. Apart from refuting various myths generated by Sai Baba and his international propaganda machine, Steel quotes this from Sathya Sai Baba, which just about refutes itself:

"What is the origin of man? At the beginning there is garbha (space). In this garbha (womb or space) human life originates and has the form of a bubble on the seventh day. On the 15th day it takes the form of the embryo. On the 30th day it becomes fetus. On the 60th day, the head starts taking shape. On the 210th day, the fetus quickens with life. On the 240th day, the full body is formed. On the 270th day the child comes out into the world. The Vedha declared that space and Time are essential factors in human birth." (Sathya Sai Speaks, Vol 30, Chapter 6, p.46, and in Sanathana Sarathi, April 1997, p. 86. The quotation comes from a public discourse on 7 March 1997.

Dr Sunny Anand lives in Little Rock, where the Mayor Jim Dailey recently proclaimed a Sathya Sai Baba Day. Shortly before, Mayor Slay of Saint Louis did the same. The worldwide and powerful Sai Baba cult works relentlessly to insinuate itself into religious and political mainstreams and then triumphantly features famous 'catches' such as Dr. Anand. In their recruiting efforts, the Sathya Sai Organization shows costly Sai Baba propaganda films and hires luxurious venues such as a Hilton Ballroom, the Cooper Union, La Mirada Theatre, Sydney Superdome, and Melbourne Town Hall: home.hetnet.nl/~ex-baba/engels/articles/superdome.html . Their presentations typically withhold from the public that they regard Sathya Sai Baba as God fully incarnate (the 'Avatar' of all the ages) who has come to save the entire world before his self-prophesied death in AD 2022. They do not reveal that some of his flashy 'miracles' have been exposed as fakes (see video footage at: home.hetnet.nl/~comments_on/_the_secret_swami/_sai_baba2.htm ). They side-step the devastating exposure of Sai Baba and some of his leaders in the BBC's 'The Secret Swami' (2004), and the Danish national broadcaster DR’s searing documentary 'Seduced' (2002). Nor do they remind us of Sai Baba's embarrassing history of absurd statements about science and history, his unfulfilled prophecies - home.no.net/abacusa/SaiBaba.htm - or the opulent splendor in which he lives, e.g., mounted on a huge golden throne. His prodigious wealth is sustained by vast Indian and foreign donations. See Rediff News, July 06, 2005, www.rediff.com/money/2005/jul/06spec2.htm ), which reports “The Andhra Pradesh-based Sri Sathya Sai Central Trust is the largest recipient of foreign contributions”. This figure does not account for contributions from those foreigners who donate when they are in India. His organization cannot reconcile their promotions with Sai Baba's statements that he does not need to promote himself or his work. On his forty-third birthday, he proclaimed, "Avatars need no advertisement." www.sathyasai.org/discour/1968/d681123.htm

Trustfully, forces for reason and justice in the US and beyond will be interested in knowing more about Dr. Sunny Anand's umbilical tie to one frequently called among his millions of devotees 'the Doctor of all Doctors'. Activists of Arkansas, US and beyond, please do share this information with your contacts e.g., media, scientists, doctors, researchers, social justice groups, senators/congressmen/, etc. You may kindly send me useful contacts. From the richly varied backgrounds of many former devotees, I can coordinate highly-qualified professionals, including our legal, medical, academic, sexual abuse professionals, etc., to brief authorities who are concerned at how insidiously such a major cult can penetrate - concealing all the while its real agendas - mainstream social, political and religious structures,
