The figure of Balasai Baba is as close a resemblance as possible to Sathya Sai Baba. The Balasai Baba photo gallery shows him in robes that simulate Sai Baba's in form and colour and in poses that have been shown countless times in Sathya Sai Baba photos, as can be seen below. Further, Balasai Baba purports to 'materialise' the same kinds of objects as Sathya Sai... even including lingams 'regurgitated' from the mouth on Shivarathri. As competitor to Sathya Baba, Balasai Baba runs just about neck-and-neck with Swami Premananda.

The whole Balasai Baba set-up emulates that of Sathya Sai Baba. The ashram is not very far from Prashanthi Nilayam and reportedly functions as a haven for those who were not accepted by - or sufficiently satisfied with Sathya Sai Baba. Swami Premananda's ashram at Tiruvannamalai was also visited a lot by Sathya Sai devotees, not least by plenty who could not get attention from Sathya Sai Baba.

Disillusioned by the scandals, many disciples have been turning away from Satya Sai Baba and to the 35 year-old Palghat (Kerala) born Bala Sai Baba. Bala Sai claims to be the real Sai avatar. He has set up an ashram in Kurnool district of Andhra Pradesh. He dresses like Satya Sai Baba, performs the same kind of 'miracles' and has been successful in attracting a large number of devotees. He too has western disciples.

“You cannot understand my life because it has not been on the surface for you to observe,” – said Bhagawan once. It is true; he is a power out of the ordinary, a star that dwells apart. There is a mystic fire and light in his eyes, penetrating into the beyond. He probably is seeing the heavenly visions! His terrestrial existence is a complex personality – the power of a seer, a mystic, a philosopher, a Yogi, a sociologist that is turning the current of human progress itself towards the goal of superman-hood.
