Fake baba nabbed for cheating devotee

GUNTUR: A fake baba, accused of cheating a woman devotee by taking away cash and gold valuables from her, was arrested in Guntur on Monday.
Police said the arrested baba was also facing trail in a murder case.
Datta Baba alias Datta allegedly took 16 tolas gold and Rs 70,000 from a housewife Sridevi after convincing her that he would perform a puja to get her son recover from polio.
Sridevi, in her complaint to the police, said that Datta neither conducted the puja nor returned the valuables. Acting on her complaint, a police team led by circle inspector D Koteswara Rao conducted a raid on the premises of Datta's ashram here and arrested him.
Investigations revealed that the accused was earlier arrested for his involvement in the murder of a woman (also named Sridevi) in the Kukatpally area of Rangareddy district.
Datta Swamy used to run an ashram in Kukatpally, where he had an affair with a woman devotee Sridevi, who was later allegedly killed by him with the help of his wife when the former threatened to reveal his misdeeds. He was arrested and sent to jail. Later, he was released on bail.
He then shifted his activities to his native place Gutur, where he started a small ashram and attracted people in the name of conducting special prayers for their health and wealth.
Datta Swamy, denying allegations of Sridevi, reportedly told the police that she lodged a false complaint as he had refused to marry her.
However, the antecedents of this fake baba soon come to light as he was earlier arrested by the present Guntur additional superintendent of police A R Srinivas from the Kukatpally ashram on the charges of murder when the latter was the deputy superintendent of police of Balanagar.
In fact, Datta had tried to start an ashram in Medak district, where he acquired two acres of government land and another 30 acres from the public.
However, he could not succeeded as the public came to know of his misdeeds.
Sathya Sai Baba of Puttaparthi is a fake too;
he cheats devotees on a daily basis
and is involved in a number of murders.
When will he be nabbed?
