I think this is quite important, and it is an attempt to show those who are trapped (and those who WERE previously trapped) by SB's mesmerising spell how they are being influenced by SB's extraordinary brand of  compulsive "showmanship", which does not withstand objective examination. It also suggests plausible reasons WHY he behaves in this peculiar way.
